Garden Hens and Chicks and Roosters
July 08, 2013
There is a very small little flower garden close to my covered patio and next to the driveway. It is edged with a pre-fab concrete scalloped border.
I have been planting succulents in three iron wheels in this garden the last few years. Mostly sedums, hen and chicks and moss roses.
So this year I have a chicken coop in the front yard!

I have been planting succulents in three iron wheels in this garden the last few years. Mostly sedums, hen and chicks and moss roses.
This year I made it a chicken themed flower bed. I added this chicken feeder planted with yellow lantana on top and hen and chicks in the bottom, and also a pewter rooster.
This wire egg crate was purchased thrifting earlier this year for $3. The chicken coop sign was made by one of my sign painter friends. A red trailing petunia is planted in a bucket inside the crate.
I added a second chicken feeder planted with bidens on top and moss roses in the tray below. Looking on is the large iron rooster I purchased at the furniture store where I work.
Since the top photo was taken in May, the iron wheels have filled in with volunteer moss roses and sedums.
None of the moss rose volunteers have bloomed yet so I will show you the bed again when they do.

ReplyDeleteI love the chicken feeders and the wagon wheel. I have bought two chicken feeders but there is no way to get one thing done here in all this rain.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cute idea for a planter! Love succulents!

I love moss roses Carlene. Love your chicken coop garden :-)
ReplyDeleteWell I love it of course. I need some more roos and chickens for my faux coop since the real chickens have left.
ReplyDeleteA chicken coop without the mess! Fun new additions!
ReplyDeleteRight in style with your 'chicken coop'. Love it ... looks great.

ReplyDeleteThis is so darn cute and clever! : )
ReplyDeleteCarlene, I love hens & chickens in the garden. Both in plants and statuaries. I have a few. In fact, I took pics to do a post about one of my chickens tomorrow. I have a lot of Moss Rose that reseeded and is blooming now. Don't you love that they do that? I plant quite a few of them in my galvanized containers because they can take the heat. Love your little coop display! Thanks for sharing it with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
