Farmhouse Style Cutting Board Kitchen Hooks
March 18, 2018
Sometimes I don't like how something I make turns out, and I just stuff it back into my junk stash.
Like the gray cutting boards above. I had painted and stenciled them, and was just never happy with them. Not my style. One was too busy.
BUT, the addition of the middle board, gave me an idea.
First four holes were drilled into the sides of the plain wood board.
Wood screws were inserted in the holes with the tips coming through.
Then the two painted boards were placed under the plain board. (back view)
The bottoms of the boards were lined up flush and the screws were drilled through the top boards. They were countersunk.
A large sawtooth hanger was added to the middle board with small screws, not the nails that came with the sawtooth.
All three boards were painted with two coats of Chalked Paint in Chiffon Cream.
When the cutting boards were dry, I gave them an allover sanding with 220 grit sandpaper.

Next I pulled out my *Old Sign Stencils Grain Sack Stripe stencil.
I use blue painter's tape to hold my stencil in place.
I used Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in Black for the center board stripes and Deco Art Chalky Finish Paint in Rouge for the outer boards.
I sealed the chalk paint and stencils with Varathane Clear Matte Water Based Polyurethane.
Lastly I added Hobby Lobby black hooks and one white hook with screws.
I also tied two jute strings through the cutting boards on the ends.

I think I need to keep this project!
Something else has to go or at least get moved in my kitchen!
The hooks are great for vintage kitchen ware, towels, aprons, and greenery.
**Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples.
All opinions about these fabulous products are my own.

Carlene, this is another inspired design! SO many possibilities for decorating it through the year. Great tip about using small screws on the saw tooth hanger. Go brilliant you!!

PS I also love the ironing board with coat hooks.
Hi Carlene! What a terrific idea - they turned out super cute. Definitely a do-over success. Jane
ReplyDeleteVery clever... we all have items that for some reason didn't make the cut. You should see my garage!??!!Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love your stenciled cutting board racks. I pinned it, and hope to replicate it soon.
ReplyDeleteThat turned out beautifully, Carlene...great idea!
ReplyDeleteWell Carlene, you KNOW this one got me good. I was a huge collector of red vintage kitchen utensils back in the day and this takes me right back there again. Your clever use of cutting boards though? Whole other category of genius! Thanks for always inspiring me!
ReplyDeleteI'm featuring this project this weekend on DIY Salvaged Junk Projects. Thanks for linking up! :)
