Summer and Winter
December 20, 2012
The older I get, the less I enjoy the snow and cold weather in northern Minnesota.
The snow cover this winter is really beautiful as it sticks to the tree branches. This is an Acer Maple variety on our front boulevard,
and a spruce tree by our deck.
This is the view of our back yard. There is maybe a foot of snow.
It seems that there are a lot of gray days with little sunshine in the winter. Tomorrow will be our shortest day of the year, with sunrise 8:03 and sunset at 4:20.
Everything is snow covered and dormant.
This is my funnel on a broom handle in winter...
Remember it last summer with red lantana?
The whiskey barrel and water pumps in winter...
And in summer.
The re-purposed futon ends in winter...
And in summer.
The fairy garden in winter...
And in the summer.
Garden junk in winter...
And in summer.
The weathered gray chair in winter...
And in summer.
The potting bench in winter...
And in summer.
Lots of snow and winter to go before flower gardening!

I loved your summer/winter shots Carlene! Winter is pretty when you have fresh snow... but we sure long for spring, don't we? I think I'd rather weed than shovel. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteOh send me some snow......we are to get a couple inches......that will be okay, I guess.
ReplyDeleteHow different summer is from winter, but I love the change of seasons. (Summer is too long and too hot, hah)
I don't like the cold, but I'd much rather have a white winter than a brown one with no snow! Great comparison photos!
ReplyDeleteBrrrr. It makes me cold just looking at the contrast between the summer and winter photos. Beautiful photos, and the snow does look pretty -- I'm glad it's not here though. I know exactly what you're saying about the older I get the less I like being cold. laurie
ReplyDeleteWinter time has always been my favorite....but it COULD be because we seldom, if ever, get THIS much snow. :)

Oh! How beautiful! We so rarely get snow that I'm just in awe! This is a perfect, Christmas-y post!

Christmas Greetings from South Texas where we never get any snow so I'm enjoying looking at yours all the more. Beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteIt does look beautiful, Carlene, but I'm with you. We were lucky here last year in that whatever we got was melting and gone by afternoon. I hate driving in the snow so a snow day {or days} means I'm in the house until all the roads are clear. It's nice to see what your different gardening areas looked like in the Summer months.
ReplyDeleteWe may get snow every three years and that is why we long for it. I know you are eager to get in that beautiful garden of yours after all this snow.
ReplyDeleteWe are getting our first bit of snow tonight! Not sure whether I am looking at this as a positive or not! LOL Your photos showing the same decoration both in winter and summer is a great idea! I loved seeing the changes!
ReplyDeleteI understand the long winters and gray days (we lived in Chicago), but I do like the cold and the snow. Winters are a little too mild for me here in Virginia. Love the contrast of your pictures!

Each snowy day brings us closer to Spring...at least that's what my mantra is :-) Love your photos Carlene! What a great way to remember the beauty of summer under all of that snoe.
ReplyDeleteYou took the words right out of my mouth sweetie. I say that same thing about Winter and getting older. We have a bit of snow here, but 5 min. South of us they have none. One thing that is nice in UT is that it snows, but the sun usually shines right after. All of that good moisture must help your beautiful garden. It is always gorgeous! I don't know about you, but as soon as Feb. arrives I start counting the days till Spring. Dreaming about it already. lol!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jann
p.s. Loved all of the pics!
I will be the first to admit, I don't like winter at all.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the cold. I don't like the snow. I don't like any of it.
I would rather be pouring with sweat than freezing cold!
We have lucked out here in Southern IL, it has been a rather mild winter until today.
Today has been horrible.
I'm counting the days till Spring.
Till sunshine. Till warm temps. Till flowers and green grass. Yes that is me! Not winter!
I know others love it but not me. I would be perfectly okay being in shorts and having a picnic on Christmas Day. ;)
Hugs
Tam
Entertaining and creative idea, Carlene, to include winter and summer shots of the same things. I enjoyed seeing the difference!! Merry Chrtistmas :)

Hi Carlene, So nice to meet you and I have so enjoyed my visit and seeing all the snow. I live in Texas but growing up in Michigan I can relate to the beauty of the white stuff.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the comparisons from summer to winter in your post. Both seasons you have a lovely yard to enjoy.
Your trees look gorgeous topped with snow.
Thank you for stopping by to visit and your kind comment and following. I am a happy follower here now too.
Enjoy the weekend and Merry Christmas.
Hugs, Celestina Marie
I'm cold just looking at your winter pics!! Burr!
ReplyDeleteCarlene--I posted once but had to come back again--to thank you so much for linking up with Country Whites Weekend. I love all the photos of the snow--to me it looks so beautiful. Of course, I'm sitting in front of the fireplace as I say this! LOL

Your snow is so beautiful. I can't imagine living where we would get this kind of snow! Merry Christmas, sweetie,
ReplyDeleteShelia :)
I love your photos and the contrasts between winter and summer. Thankfully we're on the upward rise again to longer days though it will take a few weeks to really notice it. Pamela
ReplyDeleteLove your pictures Carlene. Snow pictures will likely be the only snow I will see this year. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteChristmas Blessings,

I'm don't care for the winter, but I do like to see a beautiful snowfall. Seeing your summer comparisons makes me want to get out and start gardening, but I'll enjoy planning for now. I'm your newest follower. Thank you for joining in on our Country Whites Weekend!

Looks similar here...wish I would have gotten out to take pics of outdoor decor before the big snow. I do like the snowy look though :)
