Decorating with Collections: Oil Lamps
February 15, 2013
The Valentine's Day vignette with head vases on my coffee table is all put away, and I have replaced it with a collection of oil lamps.
Just some of my oil lamps!
Joining Brenda for Tweak It Tuesday.
What do you think about the vignette feature on Picasa? Do you like my photos without it, like the photo above?
Or with the white hazy vignette around the photo like this one?
This is a macro closeup of the wooden box of small oil lamps. It came out quite clear. I don't think I have ever taken a macro photo before this.
Oil lamps were one of my first collections. Most of mine I purchased inexpensively.
Old photographs of aunts.
I wonder if my old aunts curled their hair with an iron like the one in the oil lamp chimney?
And have you decided yet? Do you like my photos with the hazy vignette border?
Or without?

Great oil lamp collection!! I like your photos both ways.

I do like the vignette feature. I love playing with Picasa.
ReplyDeleteWow! You are really doing great with the pictures! I love the oil lamps. I don't have any, but I'm always drawn to them in the antique store. I think I like the hazy look on the picture best!
ReplyDeleteGood Evening Carlene, I have to say I like the photograph with the white haze, I think it gives a wonderful, vintage look to the photograph.
ReplyDeleteI adore the photographs of your aunts, mmm I wonder how they curled their hair. In the sixties as a teenager I ironed my long hair (I know dreadful), as the fashion was for straight hair and mine had a wave to it. Wish we had GHD's in those days, then when I cut my hair, my Twiggy hairstyle would not have kinked so much!
Have a lovely weekend.
Best Wishes
Daphne
Hi Carlene. You really have a beautiful assortment of oil lamps. I like the 'vignette' Picasa feature on some of my photos. I use it alot when I'm doing room shots, for some reason, in my color scheme, I feel it seems to soften them, but sometimes I don't think it does a picture justice. I liked using the black on Halloween but not on most others. Your's looks pretty either way, I think. I also just found out about the macro setting on my camera. I think it really works great because some of mine can get too blurry..Happy Weekend..Judy
ReplyDeleteI like them without the haze. I used to play with a lot of effects and decided a nice clear photo is what I am after. I love macro shots. I need a macro lens. We have lots of oil lamps at our old house because we use them when the lights go out. They do have a quiet nostalgic beauty about them though.
ReplyDeleteYour collection of oil lamps is really nice. The little ones are so cute. I have two large ones that belonged to the grandmothers, but don't light them. I did once and it made me nervous. Is that silly? As far as the hazy border on the photos, it nice but,I usually like to see all the details of a photo. Plus, with hazy, I think my glasses need cleaning. :) Both ways are nice, so I'm no help.
ReplyDeleteI like the photos both ways, and your vignette is so pretty! Love the old curling iron in the lantern top. Another great collection you have!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for your lamp collection. I have some very similar lamps. Great idea to remember.
ReplyDeleteHi Carlene ... love your display of your oil lamps. Your pictures look great either way. I like good sharp pictures, but with some, the haze around the edge is good, especially if the background distracts.

Timeless Treasures.
You already know how I feel about the hazy look, but as you've read from your comments, it's a personal preference, and it seems to be 50/50. Now that you've discovered the macro setting there's no stopping you!! I have a macro lens, and I prefer the macro setting on my camera for close-ups.
ReplyDeleteGreat collection of oil lamps!
LOVE your collection - isn't it amazing how grouping things together really makes the shine!
ReplyDeleteI am a no haze photo girl myself. Let your gorgeous pics speak for themselves!

Hi Carlene, I think I like them better without the haze. I can go for a good haze, but only occasionally. However, I do like the macro shot. Your oil lamp collection is stunning and the photos of your aunt in her outfit posed in front of the house is incredible. What great shots to have, and to know who they are of is even better. The one of them walking is really unique. It seems most shots back in the day were quite posed. I am always a fan of a good moment shot.
