Chair Planter Ideas
September 08, 2013
When I walk into a consignment or antique shop, the first thing I spot are wooden chairs. I just LOVE old chairs, especially outside.
This is a recap of some of my old outside and garden chairs:
A chair is great for holding a wooden crate vignette. Here is a a fun raisin crate with vintage garden tools, a peace lily, and an iron lady figurine.
This is a variation of the above vignette with a decorative tool box. This photo is from 2012. This chair is a perfect chippy white with blue showing through.
Crockery bean pots with impatiens, and begonias and a small pitcher on this old chair that is part of a junk garden vignette.
This is a vintage high chair painted white and displaying an enamelware coffee pot of nicotiana on my patio. It is picking up a nice patina from being outside.
A trailing petunia stole the whole show here in my weathered gray chair and garden angel.
This year I set the old chair right in my front border instead of on the deck.
Early season planting of verbena and petunias in the chair, and nicotiana in the barrel on my deck from a previous summer. I love the weathered gray of the barrel, chair and deck.
Yellow Bidens really filled out nicely planted in the weathered gray chair. My chair has a chicken wire seat and I use a coco liner inside to keep the dirt in.
Sometimes even simple chair planter vignettes are nice.
This is my latest chair planter with mums and ivies, all ready for fall.
Here I have more great chair ideas from some of my friends:
Debbie at Debbiedoo's started with a $5 thrift shop chair and put together a whole outdoor vignette. She tells you how on her blog post.
From HGTV Almost Free Outdoor Updates, a new take on a chair planter. No pot or chicken wire in the seat required, just let the plants grow through the seat.
Stephanie at Garden Therapy put together this gorgeous, and fun chair planter. See the full tutorial on her blog.
If rustic is more your style, this hypertufa pot on an old metal motel-style chair is for you from Blue Fox Farm. Many more rustic garden ideas on Jacki's blog.

I have a chair just begging for Fall decor....can't wait. I would have more, but the male person here doesn't seem to see the beauty in them!!
ReplyDeleteLove the chairs - both yours and the inspirational ones from others. Your garden is quite beautiful. I wished you lived next door - we could combine the junk!

ReplyDeleteCarlene, all of these chairs are so fun! Love your fall chair display. My sis brought up one of those heaters for our vintage sale. It is in perfect condition. I nabbed it up. Thinking of keeping it indoors because It's pristine. I would love if you shared this with SYC.
