A Repurposed Pot Lid Snowman

October 21, 2013
The last couple days we have seen a dusting of snow already.  I haven't even put my garden bike away yet.  Really I'm not looking forward to snow, but I made another snowman today.

I think I have mentioned a few times before that I go to thrift and consignment shops on my lunch hours.  I live in a small town, and there really isn't much shopping here.  We have no place to look for salvage.  I find a few things at an antique shop once in a while.  So I work with what I can find, an abundance of kitchen utensils and bakeware/cookware.

I started with three mismatched pot lids.

I put aluminum foil over the black knobs on the bigger lids, and spray painted the lids off white.  Two holes were drilled in the small and middle sized lids and one hole in the large one.

I cut the top of a thick white sock off for a hat.

The sock is tied with string on top.  The small lid handle (nose) is hand painted orange with acrylic paint.

I put a wire through the top hole of the small lid and pushed the wire through the back of the hat.  This wire will hang on a nail.

This is the hanger pushed through the hole and the back of the hat.  A loop is made by twisting the wire.

I wired all the lids together.

My snowman is now ready to hang.

I didn't put a face on this snowman.  I thought he was cute with the orange carrot nose sticking out from under the stocking cap.

That's my repurposed pot lid snowman, as easy as that!

  1. Can't believe that you have had snow already. It's going to be 80 here today, but the nights are quite cool, good for sleeping.
Your snow man is really cute and a great idea with potlids.
