A "Re-Purposed" Christmas Tree - Vintage Ekco Flipper Lifter Spatula
November 14, 2013
I still haven't run out of re-purposed Christmas tree ornament ideas. I just can't run out yet, or I won't be able to do a whole tree!
This is a vintage Ekco Flipper-Lifter spatula, or pancake turner. When I saw it at the thrift shop, I thought snow shovel.
Since the spatula had holes in it, I taped a piece of foil on the bottom to cover them.
Then I dabbed on some Snow Tex for some snow texture. It is just dabbed on with a brush very unevenly.
Next I let the Snow Tex dry overnight.
This is what it looked like dry.
Then I dabbed on an heirloom white latex paint, and let that dry overnight.
Next I dipped my finger in Mod Podge several times and carefully rubbed it on the painted edge of the spatula and sprinkled it with mica snow.
After the mica dusting, the snow looks more realistic. I used a tag that I had made last year out of cardstock and a sticker to decorate the shovel, attaching it with a magnet.
I tied a piece of my red and black buffalo checked ribbon through the hole on the top..
Can you see a snow shovel now too?
