A Rustic Valentine's Day Mantel

January 07, 2014
It is still freezing cold here in northern Minnesota, so I am spending the morning with crafts and playing with an idea for a rustic Valentine's Day Mantel.

I started on the far left side of the mantel with a red dictionary, a jar full of white doilies and one red doily, a vintage clock, an old clipboard with a vintage Valentine from my Grandma's scrapbook.

Next is an old rusty lantern with faux pearls and red floral stuffed fabric hearts, and my old coke crate with a few miniatures and flameless candles.

More sewing items on a wooden, rustic stool, including white buttons with one red heart button in a jar, ecru crochet thread in a jar with one red spool, and an old oil lamp with a vintage sewing tape and curling iron.

Then on the far right side is my little Listerine bottle with red colored water in a small rustic wooden crate.

A series of small vignettes that fill up the mantel.

I just love red so it's one of the reasons I like to decorate for Valentine's Day.

  10. I am tickled at the commenter who asked if you sleep. I love the lanterns and the wee primitive foot stool. The whole mantle looks festive against the white of the fireplace.

  12. Looks great Carlene!! You are always on the ball with your holiday decorating! I am still cleaning up after Christmas here. My kids just went back to school yesterday because of the cold. I decided to wait to mess the house up "un-decorating"...but now I am more than ready to have a clean slate for 2014!! Thanks for the inspiration :)
