Re-Purposed Recipe Box to Mail Organizer
January 29, 2014
I obtained this little wooden recipe box recently from neighbors that were selling their house, and downsizing.
I am not sure if the recipe box is home made or not, but it could be.
As you can see, it had some 3x5 card, handwritten recipes between the wood slots as well as clipped recipes. The magazine recipe clippings are from the 1970's.
I painted the little recipe box with Old White Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. (This is my second project with ASCP, I painted a wooden spice rack last week.)
On this project, I waxed the piece first before sanding. I had read that this would cut down on dust from the ASCP. It also caused the paint to chip off more than wear rub off where sanded. I applied another thin coat of was after sanding.
The number plaque is from a Tim Holtz Idea-ology scrapbooking embellishment that I purchased at JoAnn Fabrics. I think it is a fun mail organizer embellishment too!
I really don't use 3x5 recipe cards any more, so I will be re-purposing the the recipe box as a mail organizer.
Perfect for my desk!

Very cute! About all I can handle is spray paint. And I don't know how many times I was trying to clean the nozzle and sprayed my face.

I love this! I recently bought a sewing machine drawer with pretty carvings. I wasn't sure that I wanted to paint it because the natural wood was so pretty. I usually paint everything. After seeing this, I think I'll paint.
ReplyDeleteSo cute!
ReplyDeleteLove it's old and chippy look!
ReplyDeleteVery creative and love the number attached.

ReplyDeleteLove it...so cute!! I put those numbers on a wire rack that I have and it gave it a great farmhouse feel to it.

Love it Carlene! It really looks great with it's new coat of paint. I haven't tried waxing first. Will do that next time. I love those little numbers and have used them on a cabinet in my craft room. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
