Help Me Pick A Bread Box
March 04, 2014
I am still busy working on my kitchen decor makeover, and I need your help.
This is the wooden bread box that I have been using for many years. It started out as a pine, dark stained country bread box from a craft sale. Then I painted it red and jadeite green. Then black and distressed with green and red showing through the black paint...
Or, this Kromex vintage aluminum bread box I purchased thrifting for $8.
I am going for a rustic farmhouse look with my kitchen makeover...
Which would you choose?

I like both, but would go with the aluminum to switch it up,since you've been using the other one for awhile! :)
ReplyDeleteBoth are great! Loving the retro/diner feel of the aluminum but I bet I could shove more into the wooden one ! LOL
ReplyDeleteIf you are going rustic farmhouse I'd vote for the wooden box. Then I'd hold a giveaway for the metal box with only one entry allowed, MINE lol!! Seriously, farmhouse decor says wood to me.
ReplyDeleteDefinately the metal one. I like the other as well. But, with your new look, I think the second one is best. Great find :)

Because you asked. . . I'd do the wood one and paint it white. . . but I love white and I think white screams farmhouse. To me the metal one is more 50's (vintage) which is ok too. . . ~d
ReplyDeleteAs a Rustic/Primitive decorator, I'd def go w the wooden, but re-distress it, maybe a mustard over the black w the black and any other color underneath, showing thru! I love the retro, but as for a bread box in a rustic kitchen...ehhh, id prob use it in another room, maybe craft rm for paper u don't want wrinkled?! Or on the porch w plants spilling out?! Lol! I don't know, I'm sure u have far better ideas for an alternate use...but just figured id throw my thoughts in too! Lol! Show us what u decide? I'd love to see! 😊
DeleteI love the vintage 50's look of the Kromex aluminum one, but than again, I would love either one!

Oh I love the aluminum one for sure!!
ReplyDeleteAnn
Definitely the aluminum one! Love it!
ReplyDeleteJeanine
If you are going rustic I would say wood but I love the aluminum one. Fab!
ReplyDeleteLike both. But I like the size of the wooden one best. I would go back to red.
ReplyDeleteI vote for the aluminum one, it has such a great look. Maybe add a couple of ironstone pieces on top with a little old wood thrown in for good measure. Can't wait to see what you decide.
ReplyDeleteJane
I like the metal look. Just don't see them that much.
ReplyDeleteCarlene .. the metal one is a great look, but if you are going for the farmhouse look, I thing the wooden one would work best. Paint it a different color and distress it ... but you likely have enough colors under the black to make it look great without new paint.

I love the aluminum one! I'd use it in my farmhouse, but then my look is eclectic, lol.
ReplyDeleteIf you are going for a rustic farmhouse feel...I would use the wood box and maybe paint it white and distress it. I've been wanting to have a farmhouse style in décor for awhile now and am slowing getting there. I love the metal one too, but it looks more vintage to me.

White, chippy, distressed wood box would work best for rustic farmhouse but I LOVE the aluminum one :)
ReplyDeleteAluminum!!! I love an eclectic look!
ReplyDeleteKelly
Oh. My. Goodness. The Kromex of course!! Love that:-)
ReplyDeleteBoth are nice but the aluminum one is just so interesting I think I would choose that one for sure!!
ReplyDeleteTotally the Kromex.
ReplyDeleteFarmhouse rustic definitely the wood one.but i would go with a different color because the black is to dark for that look. Loving the metal one but just doesn't have the rustic feel to it. Can't wait for the final outcome!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's very rustic farmhouse looking but I would still want to go with the aluminum bread box.
ReplyDeleteDenise
I like the aluminum one! (Maybe because I've been on the lookout for one forever.)
ReplyDeleteFor rustic farmhouse, I agree the wooden one would be best. Also agree that your Annie Sloan white paint would brighten and lighten it. Definitely go with a distressed finish. The aluminum is great, but too much is overkill.
ReplyDeleteCarlene without a doubt the vintage aluminum one. It screams you!!!
ReplyDeleteCynthia
I like the metal one, but I'd spray it white and highlight the lettering with red for a more farmhouse look.
ReplyDeleteOh Carlene......another choice for your wonderful kitchen. I think the aluminum one would look super with all your other tin and metal kitchen treasures! Which ever one you choose, you'll make it work and look just right!
ReplyDeleteTammy
definitely the Kromex vintage aluminum bread box
ReplyDeleteKromex one for a change.....looks good!
