A Rustic & Patriotic Potting Bench
June 22, 2014
Earlier in June I picked up this second hand ice cream freezer bucket. The bottom and liner are plastic and the sides are wood. I don't think it's terribly old. It was all ready spray painted this bright red. I also picked up a red, white and blue Minnesota license plate from 1990.
The bucket needed some sandpaper distressing and a rub down with dark walnut stain to age it a bit. Next I sprayed it with a matte poly. I filled it with a Kmart brown plastic hanging basket planted with million bells, verbena and petunias. It was one of their confetti series baskets "Patriotic Mix".
I have had the craft shop flag for about 10 years. It has hung both inside and outside of my house. I have it centered over both the potting sink and picket fence.
The Semperivum in zinc pots on the barn wood board are filling out nicely.
I added little flags to all of the pots.
An old red chippy lantern with a primitive patriotic baseball are situated on the potting sink with a small bucket of red impatiens and a vintage watering can that was my Grandpa's.
Here's the whole red, white and blue potting sink! A calibrachoa is in the watering can.
I really enjoy 4th of July decor because I am a big fan of red and navy blue!

Your potting bench is the greatest one I have seen and I adore your 4th decor.

ReplyDeleteI love the funky license plate decorating your ice cream bucket! Great find, Carlene! You're all ready for the 4th of July. We don't have our town parade until the following weekend, so I've got a little time to get my yard in order. I wish I had your potting bench!
ReplyDeleteCarlene ... that is a great potting bench with the sinks. Love the green paint and may paint mine that color when it needs painted again. Love your red/white/blue decorations. Those little flags are precious as well as the baseball and metal star. Makes me want to go decorate with something red/white and blue.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration.

ReplyDeleteI love this. We are hunting for an old sink to hook up to a spigot out by our BBQ area but to use for garden washing too. Love yours so charming.
ReplyDeleteGreat touches Carlene!!
