Surviving a Bad Week and a Repurposed Wall Shelf

October 30, 2014
This week I have found myself in tears more than once.  First of all, I am a pretty busy lady with a 32 hour per week job in addition to blogging.  But this last week was really hard!

 I, was under the weather.

Next, my laptop computer (that I blogged on) died, and I was without a computer for almost a week. I still haven't figured out the new computer operating system yet, and my photo quality is terrible.

Then, I got the bright idea on my day off to paint the built-in cabinets in my bathroom with Annie Sloan in "French Linen". This idea came to me after looking at gray/coral rooms on Pinterest one evening.

I will show you more of this makeover after I change up the decor a bit.

Then, there was this catastrophe!  My favorite lady head vase was tipped over and broken in the bathroom.  I love and collect lady head vases.

But, I did manage to get a project done but for some reason, my photos are very grainy.  Not sure why because I used Picmonkey.  Maybe something is different moving the photos from the camera to the new laptop?

My project started with this frame from an old dresser mirror.

This very smooth, free hunk of wood from my Junkin' Friend Jodi worked perfectly for this project.

The length was perfect, so I just had to cut off a six inch section of the board.  Then I screwed it onto the mirror frame.  Two sawtooth hangers were added on the back for hanging.

Before paint.

Here is the finished project, painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint "Cream".  I added a wooden embellishment painted in "French Linen".  I am having a few rooms painted in November, and this shelf will be part of the newly painted wall decor.

Hoping for a better week, next week!

  1. I'm sorry you've had such a hard week, Carlene...sounds like a lot of stress on top of not feeling well! The shelf turned out beautifully, though! Hope you figure out the new operating system soon! (I know I would have that problem, too) Get some rest and a little pampering, too! xoxo

  4. so sorry you're not feeling well... I know how that is, when you have things to do and no healthy energy to do it. blech!
but still you move on and do little projects... I like the shelf unit. The paint and embellishments look good-- Getting some rooms painted is a big deal! We're hoping to do some of that soon. Only we're doing it so we can move. :/ YaY! on the move ...not on the painting to do so!
anyway-- I'm with Linda-- get some rest and pampering! Your pictures looked fine to me!

  5. Carlene, I'm sorry you had a bad week but it was a great week for me. We just stripped down 3 bedrooms and 1 bath on our second floor. I cleaned out the eaves and found the frame from an old dresser mirror. I just couldn't throw it away but I had no idea what to do with it. After reading your blog today, I KNOW!!!!! Thank you so much. When upstairs is done, I will do this project.

  10. There are some weeks I'd like to cross right off my calendar, too, Carlene. I fear my laptop is on its way out and I'll have to buy a new one and learn how to navigate Windows 8. ugh.

Sorry your head vase broke. I hate it when I break one of my collectibles! I broke my favorite creamer and sugar bowl a few weeks ago, but after gluing them back together, I can hardly tell where they're cracked! I hope you can piece your pretty lady back together. This week will be better once you learn how to navigate your new computer, and I'm sure you'll be able to find a solution to your photo dilemma on Google. Good luck!
