Thrift Shop Candle Sconce Makeover
January 17, 2016
I purchased this dark stained candle sconce at the thrift shop this week. These are usually plentiful and inexpensive at my local thrift shops.
I thought I would make another sign and add a hook like this, but I couldn't unscrew the ledge/shelf on the latest sconce. I could only unscrew the candle cup.
I gave the candle sconce two coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Pure White. I distressed the piece with 220 grit sandpaper. After adding a black stenciled fleur de lis from Show Offs (Hobby Lobby), I coated the sconce with clear wax.
I stenciled a small "5" on a miniature galvanized craft pail and screwed it to the ledge/shelf.
Then I stuffed some faux plants in the bucket, and hung my upcycled sconce on the wall.
Easy!

Love it. I See these wall sconces all the time and never thought of using like you have. Genius. Thank you for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI just did this with two/$30 candle sconces, LOVE your inspiration. I did crackle paint finish and it turned out really well. Tiny succulent shelf. Signed, Swampdoctor
