Planting My First Junk Garden of 2017
May 19, 2017
I purchased this old table at the thrift shop for $5. I really didn't want the table, I wanted the heavy metal base. I didn't even care that it was rusty.
After removing the table top from the base, I added a square scrap of board and attached a galvanized laundry tub. I also drilled in some drainage holes.
I purchased a couple of HGTV combos for $7.99 from Menards. Although the tag said Pink Flirt, the combo was not as pictured.
My combo had sweet potato vine.
Diamond Frost Euphorbia.
Sweet Alyssum.
And pink zonal geraniums.
I added two of the combos to my laundry tub, along with two Proven Winners Argyranthemum frutescens 'Butterfly' (Marguerite Daisy)
This is the Butterfly Marguerite Daisy.
Pink seed geraniums and Snow Crystals Alyssum.
I am arranging my flowers in the tub and in the bed. Six more Marguerite Butterfly daisies will grow and cover up the a good part of the base.
I will add Osmocote Plus Outdoor and Indoor Smart-Release Plant Fertilizer
to my planting holes.
I like adding vertical interest to my flower beds. Last year I had a stool in the center of this bed but the Butterfly Marguerite Daisies soon covered the entire stool. I am sure that they will not cover this pedestal, but quite a bit of it.
I added the white alyssum around the edges and between some of the annuals too. I may even add a few more alyssum.
