Thrift Shop Candle Sconces Repurposed as Wall Book Shelves
October 07, 2017
My project today begins with two dark stained thrift shop candle sconces and a thrift shop wood plaque.
I removed the candle cup on the oval sconce and then sawed the plaque in half.
The half plaques were then screwed in to the candle holder.
I then painted the sconce shelves with Dutch Boy Chalky Paint in Antiquated Lace. I purchased it at our local Menards.
Shortly after painting I dampened a rag and "wet distressed" the edges of my sconces and the details.
Next I sealed my chalky finish paint with Varathane Clear Matte Finish Soft Touch Polyurethane.
The galvanized letter "H" tag is by "Fab Lab", and available at Joann's Fabrics.
Sawtooth hangers were added to the back.
I didn't use the tiny nails that came with the sawtooths as my shelves will be holding books. My nails were thicker and longer.

So on one sconce shelf are Collier Collection H for Hemingway novels, and the other has Collier Collection novels by Faith Baldwin.
I love displaying books all over the house!
