Roundup of Thrifted Purchases Upcycled with French Style
April 04, 2018
I purchased this combination wall curio/storage bin at a local thrift shop a couple years ago.
I started base coating it, but never finished it, until now.
I'm not sure why but I gave it one coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White and then stuffed it away in a closet.
As it turns out, I am out of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White, so I decided to paint the second coat with Chalked Paint in Linen White.
Linen White is whiter than the creamier Old White, so when I wet distressed the piece with a green scrubby and a damp tee shirt rag, it took on parts with both hues along with the under stain. The paint has an aged look without being all cream colored.

Wet distressing is pretty much like the description, except instead of using sandpaper to distress the edges and smooth brush strokes, you use a damp rag. I use the damp green pot scrubber to wet distress the edges. Use less pressure with the scrubby as it removes the paint much faster than a rag.
A fleur de lis stencil from On The Surface. This stencil was purchased at a Walmart store in Canada.
Both stencils were pounced on with Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in Black and a Dreamweaver stencil brush.
I sealed the cabinet with ASCP Clear Wax.

Here, I am displaying pin cushions on the shelves.
The cabinet takes on a whole new look after the makeover.
I love the dental molding and details, that pop with the white paint.

Love seeing so many of your upcycled pieces in one post. You made the small cupboard into a beautiful display wall piece. Thank you Carlene for sharing your work.

Yes, another beautiful winner Carlene! :) I love how the details really "pop" with the paint. The stencil is so right for this also. Go you!!!
