I picked up this section of weathered fence last year at a consignment/antique shop.
It has appeared on my blog a few times.
It was here on the covered patio in my Christmas You Cut Tree Farm.
And it has appeared numerous times as a backdrop on my blog project posts.
Like here on this Valentine's Day Project.
And here with my Rooster Vane Cabinet Door project.
Today I am going to use the picket fence section in a garden junk project.
I have quite a few old crates. I got this one a couple years ago at a garage sale.
First 2"x 3's" were added to the back corners of the crate with screws.
These 2 x 3's will add stability to my project.

Now the picket fence will be attached to the crate shims from behind with screws.
The marriage of the crate and fence worked out well because both were approximately 2' wide.
Next I painted two coats of Chalked Paint in Chiffon Cream onto a pine sign board 1" x 10" x 24".
Once my Chalked Paint was dry, I pulled out my very very favorite stencil, Buffalo Checks from *Old Sign Stencils.
I taped it on, on the diagonal with blue painter's tape.
I added faux distressing just to the edges and corners with my FolkArt Layering Wood Block and Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in Walnut Noyer.

I also added the *Old Sign Stencils Farmers' Market Stencil with black Ceramcoat craft paint.
I sealed my sign with Krylon Gallery Series Artist and Clear Coatings in Satin Finish.
I gave it several coats. This sealer is not really for outdoors but I have used it on many a project. I like that it's not really shiny. I reapply a coat now and then during the summer and then before I put then signs out again in spring.
This is a fun junk garden display piece for my cement patio or on my deck.
If you put it in a garden, I would get the crate up off the ground with a few bricks or patio squares.
I seal my old outdoor wood with THOMPSONS WATERSEAL Wood Protector.
It's clear and helps keep the water from penetrating the wood.

*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples.
All opinions about these fabulous products are my own.

Super cute Carlene! Love the plaid and the tip about sealing wood for outside.
