I purchased this old bench early in the garage sale season. I blogged about it HERE.
See the up-cycle of this bench, and other decor items for my daughter's new townhouse. (The photos were taken pretty quickly with my phone, and are not the best.)

First I painted the garage sale deacon's bench with two coats of Rustoleum Chalked Paint in Country Gray Chalked Paint is a cheaper alternative to Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, and I like this shade of gray.
Next, I taped the smaller *Old Sign Stencils Farmhouse stencil to the top back of the bench.
I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain to pounce on the lettering.
I used two coats of Varathane Water Based Polyurethane in Satin Finish to seal the paint and stencils.
I did get some stain bleed through on my bench. To completely stop this problem, you should or could use either Dixie Belle Paint Company Boss in Clear, shellac, or a shellac based primer.
I like Boss because it is low VOC.
I always hate bleed through on white paint but on this medium gray, the bleed through appears more as aging or antiquing.
Here's the finished bench!
My daughter will be using it at one side of her kitchen table as seating.
My EAT re-purposed cabinet door sign tutorial is HERE.
The National Brewers Coffee Roaster's sign was stenciled from the Old Sign Stencil below.
I have used this coffee stencil many times. I just love it!
I have also been stenciling on 18" x 18" pillow covers. I love the idea of using stenciled seasonal pillow covers on your everyday sofa pillows. This way you can change up your decor seasonally without storing a bunch of puffy pillows. Just store the pillow covers!
I found an 18" x 18" burlap pillow cover at a Hobby Lobby store. (I did not find burlap pillow covers on Hobby Lobby online, however, but they can be found on Walmart or Amazon.)
I used the Pumpkin Patch stencil with Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black to pounce on the lettering. Stenciling on fabric is quite easy! Just center the stencil and tape it onto your pillow cover with blue painter's tape.
I also used a super cool arrow stencil (new from Old Sign Stencils) on my burlap pillow cover.
Here's my finished "Pumpkin Patch" burlap pillow!
Also in this photo to the right is a recent end table up-cycle with the Old Sign Stencils buffalo check stencil.
The other sofa pillow cover I stenciled is a canvas pillow cover also from Hobby Lobby.
I used the Pumpkin Spice fall stencil on the pillow cover.
Paints I used for stenciling include: Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Honfleur for the browns, Deco Art Chalky Finish Paint in Heritage for the orange, and Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain for the whipped cream.
I think I like the pillow even better than a pumpkin spice latte!
On the coffee table is another of my projects, a stenciled tray.
The tray project with fern stencil is HERE.
This menu board project tutorial is HERE.
This project uses chalkboard panels from Home Depot not chalkboard paint.
Create some fun fall, farmhouse, coffee and buffalo check decor at your farmhouse!
