Thrift Shop Books to Fall DIY Decor
September 26, 2018
All books are 25 cents each at my local thrift shop this week! Time for a upcycling project with old books.
These farmhouse style books were up-cycled HERE.
Read on to see another book upcycle.

I brushed on a couple coats of Rustoleum Chalked Paint in Country Gray
The book covers had a linen type finish so I painted them in a cross hatch pattern.
I then sanded the books lightly with 220 grit sandpaper, also in a cross hatch pattern.
Now to add some stencils!
I will be using the new fall stencil line from *Old Sign Stencils, including Apple Cider,
And Pumpkin Spice.
These are all pretty big stencils for signs, so I had to use part of each, and also position them on the diagonal.
Here I am stenciling Spice on the book on the diagonal with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Honfleur.
For the leaf and pumpkin graphics, I used Deco Art Chalky Finish Paint in Heritage, and Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Amsterdam Green. Teas is stenciled with white Ceramcoat white paint.
For the Cider book, I used Ceramcoat black craft paint for cider, Ceramcoat white for the cider steam, Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Honfleur for the mug, and Amsterdam Green for the apple leaves. The apple is stenciled with Deco Art Chalky Finish Paint in Rouge.
The book spines have a jack o'lantern face in black, a pumpkin leaf, and an apple leaf from the fall graphics stencil.
The books were then sealed with Minwax Paste Finishing Wax in Natural.
An easy and fun project!
Here I am displaying the books in a wall plate shelf.
*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples.
All opinions about these fabulous products are my own.
Have you tried up-cycling old books yet?
