A Cabinet Door Stenciled Snowman Sign/Wall Hooks
October 21, 2018
Earlier this year, I purchased quite a few cabinet doors from a display at our local Menards.
Some were $5 each and some were $3 each. We don't have a local ReStore or Habitat type store where they are $1 each, so I was happy to find them.
This cabinet door was one in the stack.

First I painted the door with two coats of Chalked Paint in Chiffon Cream. I sometimes add a bit of Chalked Paint in Linen White to make the creamy white a bit less yellow. Like a 5 to 1 ratio.
I have a love/hate relationship with FolkArt Holiday Value Stencil Packs. On the love side, they contain many stencils at a great price, BUT on the hate side, they are paper and you have to press out the perforations on each stencil. You have to be extremely careful not to tear them, and it's time consuming.
Out of the 20 something stencils in a pack, I will use several, but not all. Still good value.
I have used 5 of these stencils so far.
1. The Snowman in this post.
2. Easter Pillows from "Happy Easter" & "Egg Hunt" stencils.
3. "Trick or Treat" a sign and bucket, and cutting board sign.
4. "Jack o'Lantern" face on a cutting board.
The 12" x 12" stencil was too big for the center of the door, so I decided to stencil "Let It Snow" on the frame and the snowman in the indentation.
I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black for the snowman outline, mouth, eyes, buttons and "Let It Snow". (I think this stencil is perfect for a child's room. The stencil reminds me of a coloring book page.)
The mittens were stenciled in DecoArt Chalky Finish Paint in Rouge, the stick arms in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Honfleur, the nose in Deco Art Chalky Finish Paint in Heritage, and the scarf in DecoArt Chalky Finish Paint in Artifact.
I lightly distressed the stenciling and cabinet door edges before sealing with Varathane Water-Based Polyurethane in Satin Finish.
I added two Hobby Lobby black hooks to the bottom of the frame.
I added a sawtooth style hanger on the back.
Not my usual rustic style, but I can envision this snowman wall hook sign on a child's wall with little jackets, scarves and hats!

I still have cabinet doors in my shed so more projects to come!
