DIY Fabric Ornaments With Stencils From Joann Fabrics
November 20, 2018
Today I'm sharing a Christmas craft project with supplies I purchased at Joann Fabrics.
Above is a Maker's Holiday Craft 4" x 4" paper stencil set of 12 designs available at some of the Joann Fabrics stores. They are NOT available online, but you can check if they are available at a store near you.
I paid $2.49 for the set at 50% off.
This set is also from Joann's.
The stencils are paper and fragile, but have some great designs for small items.

I am going to create some fabric ornaments using a red and black buffalo check flannel and a sturdy canvas fabric.
First I traced around one of the new stencils onto Heat N Bond Ultra Hold.
I then changed my mind.
I traced one of my upcycled Hobby Lobby paper ornaments from another recent project.
They were about 4" wide.
I ironed 3 Heat N Bond circles onto the natural canvas fabric and 3 onto the red and black buffalo check flannel fabric.
I then peeled off the paper backing and ironed the fabric circles onto Pellon Extra Firm Stabilizer. The Pellon will give my ornaments stiffness so they stay flat, and aren't flimsy.
I used a single hole punch to make a hole in my ornaments.
I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain to stencil on the flannel checked fabric and Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black to stencil on the canvas fabric.
I will be using more of these stencils on another project too. Several of the stencils are two parts with overlays. I thought that may be too hard to do on fabric.
I tied a jute string hanger through the hole to hang on a tree.
This project is very easy!

Here are all six ornaments hanging on my spruce tree tops.
Since I have a covered patio, I will be using these ornaments to decorate one of my outdoor greenery buckets.
I may spray them with an acrylic sealer to keep them looking good. I do get some snow blowing in the covered patio at times. I will also secure the ornaments with a little piece of wire so they stay on the branches.
I hope to share my outdoor covered patio Christmas decorations next week.
It has been very cold here in northern Minnesota.
Here are covered patio greenery buckets from the past years!
