A Fun Mid Century End Table Up-cycle with Pale Pink Paint & Stencils

December 14, 2018
I shared this little garage sale find end table in a blog post from August, 2017.

I paid $10.  It's vintage, with a mid century vibe!

I am thinking of a pastel for my table, which I think could double as a night stand as well.

It seems like older pieces of furniture with old wood stains and varnishes really can bleed through light colored chalk or mineral paints.  Not any more!

I have found Dixie Belle Paint Company Boss in White.  It's a great low odor primer that blocks stains, odors and bleed through.  Very easy clean up too.

*Dixie Belle Paint Company has provided me with complimentary paint products.  All opinions about the products are my own.

This is my table with one coat of Boss in white.  The Dixie Belle Paint Company has a great website with product use tips, on all of their products HERE.

I applied two coats.

My paint choice is Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Pink Champagne, a very light pink.

I gave my table a couple of coats of Pink Champagne, using my new favorite paint brush, the Zibra Grip-n-Glide 2-Inch Paint Brush with Stubby Handle.

This brush works so well with this paint!  Almost zero brush strokes.

I am going to add "just a touch" of buffalo checking, using my beloved stencil from *Old Sign Stencils.

The stencil fit pretty well on the top shelf, width-wise.

I taped the stencil horizontally to allow just three rows of checks.  I used blue painter's tape.

I love Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth.  It's an off white that I love.

I will be stenciling the table in a few small areas using this paint with the buffalo check stencil.

 Here is the top shelf.

I pounce the stencil.  I like areas of lighter and darker paint.  If the stencil is applied too uniformly, I think it looks more like a stencil.  I think it seems more like buffalo check fabric with the differences in the (weave).

I also stenciled the drawer front on the diagonal!  I painted the original metal knob as well.

I love Dixie Belle in Drop Cloth stenciled on their Caviar Black, and it appears more white.  On Pink Champagne, it looks almost beige.

I used Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear to seal my paint and stencils.

Dixie Belle Paint doesn't need a top coat of wax or poly.  It cures in about 30 days to a durable finish, but adding a wax or clear coat can enhance the paint colors and add a bit of shine, and add more durability and water resistance.

I have found these rags to work well with wax application.

If you like mid century furniture AND PINK, you gotta love it!

I am glad I went pink!

It's just fun to go pink!

Don't be afraid to try a paint color out of your comfort zone.  You can always re-paint it!
