This wooden box/drawer was at the thrift shop all through the holiday season. It was filled with faux Christmas greenery.
I really never paid that much attention to it, but after Christmas, I gave it a little more scrutiny. I discovered it was a small square wooden drawer.
The wood divider was already in the center.
Hmm. I thought. This will make an easy upcycle project!

So I washed up the drawer with some hot soapy water and Dawn Dish Soap. Most of the marks did not come off of the flat white paint.
The front of the drawer had two holes drilled in it for a drawer pull.
I painted the drawer inside and out with two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Burlap.

After I had painted the drawer, I decided to fill the holes with Elmer's Carpenter's Color Change Wood Filler in Natural. After it was dry, I sanded the hole areas and painted them.
I gave the whole piece a sanding with both 220 and 100 grit sandpaper. The drawer and center board were pretty rough, and the white shows through in many of the raised areas.
I found this wood dowel and iron pull at Hobby Lobby. Of course I purchased it at 50% off.
I painted the black iron part of the pull with the same Dixie Belle Paint in Burlap.
The pull was attached with black screws to the center board.
I stenciled all four sides of the drawer/caddy with farm words from this Hampton Art stencil pack from Joann Fabrics, and Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in Light Ivory.
I then waxed the whole piece with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear. I used a Intex Pfc Precision-fiber Paint & Cleaning Rag to apply the wax, and another rag to wipe it down after the wax dried.
I love the Hobby Lobby pull! It makes the drawer look like a caddy!
"Market" and "Market" were stenciled on these two sides of the drawer/caddy.
And "Organic" and "Produce" are stenciled on the other two sides.
I picked up these seed starter pots at Menard's yesterday.
I brushed on two coats of Varathane Water Based Polyurethane in Satin Finish on the seed starter pot on the left.
I like how the polyurethane darkened the pots.
I then put four mismatched little faux plant/flower pots, in the seed starter pots, and then into my new flower caddy.
You know how I like to group my decor in/on trays, crates, baskets, risers and drawers. This caddy would be awesome on a table or counter.
The caddy would work with jars as well.
So, find an old drawer, and add a center board, because you probably won't find one with the center board already in it, like I did!
Paint your drawer, stencil it, distress it, and add a Hobby Lobby pull!
