This hand painted wooden plate/plaque was a recent purchase at the thrift shop.
I gave the hand painted areas a good sanding to level out the paint thickness.

I started out painting with Dixie Belle Paint in Drop Cloth, but some of the red paint started bleeding through my white paint.
Luckily there is a low odor primer that covers stains, blocks odors and prevents stain bleed through. It's called Dixie Belle Boss.
I used a chip brush to brush on two coats, but just on the top of the plate.
Next I brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth.

I used my Zibra 2-Inch Stubby Handle Brush to apply the paint.
Zibra brushes leave very few brush marks.
I stenciled the plate with a new stencil from *Old Sign Stencils, Farm Blend Grain.
I taped it to the plate with blue painter's tape.
I stenciled the grain with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Burlap and the rooster and lettering with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in CAVIAR.
I sprayed the plate with Dixie Belle Easy Peasy Spray Wax.
Then simply wiped the plate down with a INTEX SUPPLY Fiber Rag after about 15-20 seconds.

A sawtooth hanger was added to the back of the plate.
A vintage wire coat hook (from ebay) was screwed into the bottom of the plate.
Various decor items can be displayed on the hook.
Next I upcycled this metal garage sale vase.
Because I feared bleed through of rust or paints, I brushed BOSS on the vase too.
The vase was painted, stenciled and waxed just like the wooden plate.
I just love the new stencil. Instant farmhouse!
The stencil is sized to work well on smaller items, or pillows,
*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.

I like both of your makeovers! Love that tray and especially the hook you put on the bottom. How neat - change out the hanging item according to holidays and seasons. The old rusty bucket looks great too - love those yard sticks!
