Garage Sale Iron Hand Towel Stand Repurposed Plant Stand
March 06, 2019
I purchased this iron hand towel stand last summer at a garage sale for $1.25.
I didn't really know what to do with it right away, but I thought it had some upcycle/repurpose possibilities.

The hand towel stand was heavy iron, mostly black, but had copper rub on accents in places.
I didn't want the copper accents, and I wanted to even out the black color, so I painted the stand with one coat of Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black. Fusion doesn't need a topcoat.
I didn't distress the towel stand either.
I didn't distress the towel stand either.
I picked up these two little metal pails at Hobby Lobby.
They are priced $1.99, but they are often on sale at 50% off.
I gave each of them a couple of coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Burlap.
I then stenciled the circled leaves above onto each little pail with Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black.
This stencil is part of a 3 pack of spring stencils available at Joann Fabrics.
Then I wiped on a light coat of Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear with a paper towel.
Once the wax was dry, I wiped the pails down with a dry paper towel to remove any excess and rub it into the paint.
The little pail fit in the hole pretty well, and it won't fall through thanks to the handle.
The last step was to fill the pails with small potted faux plants!
This was so EASY!
Blooming faux plants or even real plants would work in the pails, however, I wouldn't paint the inside of the pail if I was planning to fill it with dirt.

What a sweet upcycle! Love the cute little buckets and they work perfectly with the towel rack. Very clever! ❤
