MacKenzie Childs Inspired DIY Decor
March 14, 2019
I painted this frame and added grain sack stripes with tape. This was long before I was using chalky finish paints or stencils, and I think this was my first stab at using a burnt umber paint to add antiquing.
I decided to give it an update.

I first brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth.
I didn't distress the frame at all.
This is a 6" x 9" stripe stencil that I purchased at a Hobby Lobby store a couple years ago. It is no longer on the website, but some may still be in stock at stores.
I like it for small striping jobs. You could also use FrogTape Painter's Tape to paint stripes.
I used Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in CAVIAR to stencil the stripes.
Stenciling the stripes makes them a little more transparent in spots than painting with Frog Tape.

I taped off the center area with painter's tape.
I painted the center area, and the frames' edges with Rust-Oleum Metallic Accents Paint in Soft Gold.
I sealed the frame with Dixie Belle Satin Clear Coat.
Use clear coat very sparingly. Go back and do a second coat if you missed spots.
It's important to not use too much, and to not brush the clear coat too much.
I love dogs! Both of my framed vintage dog prints are from the graphics fairy.
The frame on the left was upcycled in a DIY project here.
The little vintage pug figurine is part of my personal collection.
All three of these projects, were inspired by MacKenzie Childs.
This little flip top table has the check pattern with gold accents as well. DIY information here.
