Thrift Shop Chinese Takeout Bowl Planter With Packing Tape Label
March 20, 2019
These little Chinese takeout containers have been at my local thrift shop for a couple weeks now.
They are ceramic, and priced at $2 each.
I had to purchase one and do something with it...

After I got the takeout container home, I saw this CB2 Take Out Serve Bowl, Made in China, label on the bottom.
I struck out trying to find a Chinese restaurant or other Chinese graphics on the Graphics Fairy blog.
I ended up finding this Chinese New Year template on Picmonkey, my photo editing software. I printed it on my inkjet printer, using the fit to page, wallet size photo.
I then had a laser copy made of my print at my local photo shop. A laser print is necessary for this project.
Here is my print.
Most packing tape is 1.88" wide which is too narrow for most of my packing tape image transfer graphics, so I purchased Gorilla Packing Tape Tough & Wide (2.83") with Dispenser Clear.
Next, I put the tape over my image.
Then I burnished my taped image with the end of a paint stick.
The burnishing works the laser ink into the tape.
I then cut out my image, ran it under water, and began rolling the paper off the back.
You may have to dampen the paper a couple times to get all the paper off.
Once the tape is dry, the tape will stick to your jar/bowl/pot.

Here is my takeout bowl with a packing tape Chinese label.
It will stick like a cling, but can easily be removed.
I also stuck a couple of thrifted chopsticks into the soil.
This planter is really fun!

ReplyDeleteThat's a cool little container. It makes a super cute planter! I'm going to have to try the tape and graphic image transfer, that's really cool!
