Up-Cycled Antique Shop Flip-Top Table
March 12, 2019
I have looked at this little table upstairs at No Place Like Home Again, a local antiques and gifts shop, several times It was priced at $25.
A couple of weeks ago, I gave it a closer look and discovered it was a flip top table. I decided to purchase it.
(When you click on the bold Amazon, Old Sign Stencils or Dixie Belle Paint Company affiliate links you will be taken to the products I use for this project. I'm sure some of you would never paint this piece, but I did.
After giving the piece a good cleaning, I brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in CAVIAR. Caviar is my favorite black.
*Dixie Belle Paint Company has provided me with some complimentary paint products. All opinions about the products are my own.
I used my favorite paint brush, the Zibra 2-Inch Stubby Handle Paint Brush. Painting legs is a snap with the Zibra 1-Inch Square Paint Brush. The Zibra brushes leave almost zero brush strokes in your paint finish.

Here is my table with two coats of Caviar.
This paper stencil with small checks is included in the Artminds 26 paper pattern stencils found at a Michael's store.
This stencil package out of stock online, but you can check for availability at stores with the above link. They are very similar to the Folkart Value Paper Stencil packs. You have to punch/press them out on the perforated areas.
Besides the checks, there are several other fun pattern stencils in the package.
I stenciled the checks with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth.
I then painted the table top side edge using a foam brush with Rust-Oleum Metallic Accents Paint In Soft Gold. I was very careful to keep the paint only on the side of the table top.
I decided not to distress the table at all. I sealed it with a light coat of Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear.
I applied the wax with a INTEX PFC SUPPLY Fiber Rag, and did a final rub down after the wax was dry with another rag.

These checks so remind me of a MacKenzie Childs table.
I like the table both flat,
AND folded up.
It's very decorative both ways.
Thanks for visiting!
