Farm Style Birdhouse With Red Milk Paint & Stencil Smorgasbord
May 05, 2019
Last year I purchased this wooden birdhouse for $5 at a garage sale later in the season.
It was well built, and unfinished.

I had leftover Homestead House Milk Paint in Fort York Red in my little jar from the last project.
I have read that once milk paint has been mixed, it should be used up in about two weeks.

I brushed on a couple coats of red milk paint, and then distressed my birdhouse with 220 grit sandpaper.
The closest Walmart to my town is in Canada. On occasion, I like to check out the craft section. I found these ON THE SURFACE Pattern Stencils at Walmart Canada.
They were very inexpensive, $7.97, and also quite small. All patterns, and no words.
I also picked up ON THE SURFACE Trendy Pattern Stencils at Walmart as well.
Each stencil package had three sheets of miniature stencils. I used the stencils with red check marks on the birdhouse.
Patterns included stars, dots, checks, stripes, quilt block patterns, hearts, and more. There were also border or edging stencils on each sheet.
I also added this Hobby Lobby Farm Stencil,
AND this Hobby Lobby Feed Stencil to the birdhouse. I had these stencils on hand, and have used them on other projects.
I stenciled the designs with Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain, and in Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black.
I sealed the milk paint and stencils with Miss Mustard Seed's Hemp Oil. I just wiped a light coat on with a lint free rag.
I think this little birdhouse received a stencil smorgasbord!
The rooster bucket was stenciled last season with another Hobby Lobby Stencil.
It held up well outside last summer!
Each side of the birdhouse has different stencils.
Lots of pattern, all the way around!
Pin it for later!
All of my product clickable links to stencils and paints will appear in tan, bold and italicized lettering!

Love your birdhouse - the color is diluted to just the right shade of weathered red! The stenciling is adorable. I like the bucket with the geraniums in it!
