Back in 2014, I found this red bucket at a local consignment/antique store. It had wooden sides with a molded plastic interior. The bucket had been spray painted red.
It may have been some kind of an ice cream bucket. I don't think it's intended use was as a planter. Maybe for ice cream.

It was too bright for my taste, so I distressed it some with sandpaper, and then wiped on some walnut stain to tone down the brightness.
I cut the hanger off of a white hanging basket of flowers and set the basket in the bucket.
I just ran across the bucket in my shed, and got an idea!
If you follow my blog, you know I own several different Folkart paper stencil packs.
I especially like the FolkArt Holiday Value Stencil Pack
. The stencil pack is also available at Hobby Lobby.
All of the holiday stencils above are in the pack.
The paper stencils are perforated paper, and must be pressed/punched out.
I thought this stencil might work well on the bucket.
I cut the stencil apart and taped it in place.
I also use fingers on my left hand to flatten the paper letters while stenciling.
The bucket is protected on my covered patio here, but I may seal it with a several coats of Krylon Gallery Series Artist and Clear Coatings Aerosol in Satin Finish
.
My red gate is a perfect compliment to Patriotic decor.
Details for my flag/frame project can be found HERE.
Thanks for visiting!

Love that red bucket with it's bright flowers. Still love the red gate, too!
