Garage Sale Floating Frame Patriotic Flag Project

I shared two of these floating picture frame finds in a recent garage sale finds post HERE.

This is the back of one of my 25 cent frames.

The frame consists of two wood frames, one to hold the two panes of glass inside the other outer frame.

I like to pick up this type of frame up thrifting. It's sort of like using a window frame for a project rather than a standard frame.

I painted the two wooden frame parts with two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth. I distressed the edges with 220 grit sandpaper, and waxed just the larger frame with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear.

I found this small stripe stencil at Hobby Lobby a few years ago. It's not available online any longer but it may be in some stores.

It was a pretty good fit on the glass.

I cleaned one of the glass panes with Windex, and then taped the stripe stencil onto the top.

I used blue painter's tape.

I stenciled the red stripes with Fusion Mineral Paint in Fort York Red.

When I stencil on glass, I use a VERY VERY dry brush, and do three coats. You will need three coats for coverage. If you pick up your glass, and allow the light to penetrate the stenciling, you will see if you need additional coats.

I stenciled the upper left corner with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Yankee Blue.
