Upcycled Shabby Chic/Boho Plant Stand/Shelf
June 27, 2019
This plant stand was one of my recent garage sale finds from last week's blog post.
I paid $4.

The plant stand had a white washed finish with a few heavily stained areas.
I cleaned it up with hot water and Dawn Dish Soap, and and some Greased Lightning Spray.
Next, I placed a few spoonfuls of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Fluff on a heavy duty paper plate and thinned it down with water, about 1:1 ratio.
I then used the thinned paint to brighten up the finish on the ladder portion of the shelf.
Most areas got one coat, with two coats on heavier stained areas.
I brushed two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Vintage Duck Egg onto just front and back edge of the shelf and the shelf top board.
I then distressed the edges just a bit with sandpaper.
I used this DecoArt 10" Mandala stencil from Home Depot, along with Dixie Belle Fluff paint to stencil the shelves.
One stencil was added to the middle and bottom shelves.
I used Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish in Matte for extra water resistance and protection on the shelves.
Water based poly can draw some tanins from the wood to the surface and yellow areas of the paint, especially on white or light paint.
This was an easy update.

Love the stencil, I want to do one of these on my shed.
