I'm sure many of you pick up old windows when you can find them cheaply!
I also pick up old window screens. Especially, if they have metal screens with wooden frames like this white one.

The frame was a little rougher than I wanted for my project. The paint was a little chippy and dingy.
After cleaning the screen with hot soapy water and a rag, I brushed on a coat of Fusion Mineral Paint in Algonquin. This was my base coat that I applied to the screen and frame.
Next, I painted the frame and screen with two coats of Rust-Oleum Chalked Paint in Linen White.
I then "wet distressed" the wood frame with a tee shirt rag to expose the base coat paint.

I taped the *Old Sign Stencils Pure Cane Sugar stencil to one of the screens.
It was a good fit!
I taped the stencil on the screen using blue painter's tape. I used Fusion Mineral Paints for the stenciling, including, Algonquin, Fort York Red and Coal Black.
For the other screen panel, I pounced on *Old Sign Stencils Flour stencil, using the same Fusion Mineral Paints.

When I applied the white chalk paint to the screen, I purposely left some paint in the screen openings for a more rustic effect.
I did not seal the stenciling or paint with wax or poly, as it will get little wear and tear hanging on a kitchen wall.
Three red iron Hobby Lobby hooks were added to the bottom of the screen, and two sawtooths were nailed to the back top of the screen for hanging!
The stenciled window screen's hooks are perfect for displaying a flour sifter, a measuring cup, a wooden spoon, or even a dish towel display in a farmhouse style kitchen!
It's fun to stencil, and even more fun to create your own unique decor!
