Last weekend I purchased this 24" fan blade at a garage sale for $2.

First I brushed on two coats of Fusion Mineral Paint in Fort York Red.
Fusion Mineral Paint requires no top coat and is quite durable.

Next, I pulled out my "TRUSTY" *Buffalo Check Stencil from Old Sign Stencils. This stencil has come in handy for pillows, curtains, furniture, Christmas and Lake/Up North decor too.
*All stencil prices are in Canadian funds. Use the currency converter to find your price on US funds.
*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.
On the first blade, I attempted to stencil the upper left side of the blade. This proved to be impossible as the blade on the left was too close to pounce the stencil brush. I tried to paint the stencil with a brush and I tried swirling. It just didn't work out.
Plan B. I traced the upper left blade and made a template out of cardboard. This worked out perfectly. The stencil lines were crisp, and just the curved area under the upper blade corner stayed red.
The buffalo checks and the fan blade/flower center were stenciled/painted with Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black.
My fan blade/flower was then wired to this old gate (with black wire), and hung on the front side of my house.
I like it! But then I love buffalo checks!
My July Junk Garden Tour is just a week or so away!
Thanks so much for visiting!

Love this flower, Carlene. You come up with the best projects from your junk "pile!" I'd love to find an old blade like that. I'll search the flea markets and thrift shops. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour flower really reminds me of poppies, and I'm green with envy over the gate!
ReplyDeleteSo unexpected AND perfect! Super unique take on this one Carlene!
