One of my June Garage Sale Finds was this wooden box. I paid $2.
I'm a little late with a Christmas in July project, but here goes...

I think this box is made from cedar.
I was worried that I might get some bleed through light colored paint, so I primed the box with Rust-Oleum Zinsser Odorless Primer and Stain Blocker.
It's an oil based primer so it works well from stain blocking.
After it was dry, I brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth. You can see "Drop Cloth" on the top right of my box.
Hobby Lobby has their Christmas Crafts kits in stock already on shelves and endcaps.
I purchased this stencil for $2.99 in the store. I don't think it's sold online.
I taped the stencil on the box front with blue painter's tape, and stenciled it on using DecoArt Americana Chalky Finish Paint in Rouge.
These metal jute wrapped drawer pulls are sold both in Hobby Lobby stores and online.
I always wait to purchase them until they were being offered at 50% off.
I faux distressed the wooden box edges using my FolkArt Home Decor Layering Block and Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in Walnut Noyer.
Details on how to use the layering block can be found in my blog post HERE. Once you get the hang of the layering block, you can easily add faux distressing. It's perfect when you repaint something that is a horrible color and don't want the color to show through after sandpaper distressing.

I filled the box with two faux Christmas trees with burlap wrapped bases. They look great with the jute wrapped handles. (The trees were available through target last season.)
My little Christmas crate has farmhouse style.
The crate can be filled with pine cones, ornaments or various Christmas items for a container vignette.
If you have been wanting to try your hand at stenciling, here is your opportunity! Add this stencil to a sign, crate, or other thrifted decor!
