I made a pretty good haul at the first garage sale of 2018.
These two primitive country plates/platters were among my purchases.

For this project, I brushed on two coats of Fusion Mineral Paint in Algonquin on the plate at the left side of the first photo.
When I was in the twin cities in July, I picked up a few stencils at Michael's including this Laser Floral stencil set.
The largest stencil was just a bit too big for the plate. Any of the stencil's leaves or petals that were only partially on the plate were omitted.
I lightly distressed the stenciling with 220 grit sandpaper, and lightly waxed the plate with Dixie Belle Best Dang Furniture Wax in Clear.
Do you have a cloche?
I have a couple of glass cloches. This one fit the plate inset perfectly. It is 10" tall and 8" wide.
Under my cloche is a Corrugated Metal Pot - Small Planter with a live Zebra White Stripe Aloe Spiky Succulent.
I placed the plant, cloche, and plate on a nightstand in front of a west window.
This was an easy project, and I know I will use this floral stencil on other upcycles!
Other upcycles from this 2018 garage sale haul include:
This vintage oak chair was $4.

I picked up this unusual jar and scoop for display in my home.
The scoop is marked A & J, and has a green Bakelite handle. I am sure the jar is old but not sure of the maker. (If you are familiar with this jar, leave me a comment with info.)
The jar found a home on this spice rack.
I painted the spice rack and added chicken wire HERE.

I snatched up this little primitive country style wooden box with handle too.

This wooden stool is missing some spindles but I can see a farmhouse makeover in its future.
It has been stabilized with wire!
I picked up this deacon's bench for $5.
The deacon's bench moved to my daughter's home after the makeover, HERE.
This was a metal outdoor planter box that I bought at the sale.
The planter was upcycled and got a place of honor here on my peacock settee.

I think I put off upcycling this old high chair so long because it was missing part of the seat.
But since I was only going to use the piece for decor/display, I finally ended up adding a piece of upside down beadboard paneling and fastening it with decorative tacks HERE.
Thanks for visiting!

I would look at pictures of old coffee jars, They often had that more sophisticated look to them. Mine are more oval. I keep different kinds of buttons in them for display. One has vintage necklaces piled in it, It makes my collections easier to display and keeps them clean. Except the jars, but I collect them, too so there are always clean ones available.
ReplyDeleteOh that turned out so cute! You always have the cutest makeovers!
