I have a thing for old wooden levels, especially red ones, and levels that cost me a dollar at the garage sale.
Great chippy red patina, and a little rust too.

My supplies for the project include Redesign Decor Transfer - Everyday Farmhouse, two Hickory Hardware P25029-WOA Windover Antique Double Coat Hooks, two ARROW Small Saw Tooth Picture Hangers, Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish in Matte and Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear. I purchased the hooks on sale.

Sheet two.
Sheet three.
I chose Old Stone Farm Inc. and San Marcos St. from the sheets, and cut them out.
Just remove the white paper backing, center your script, and rub on the transfer using the enclosed stick.
I then brushed on a coat of Polycrylic. OOPS!
This was a huge mistake. The Polycrylic darkened the red paint everywhere except under the "halos" around my transfer letters. I sanded the level, using a dust mask in case it was lead paint, removing the transfer. I used 100 grit sandpaper.
I then brushed on Polycrylic before applying more transfers.
After applying the new transfers, I rubbed on the Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear. This process made the halos disappear!
The poly and wax really deepened the red paint!
I like the end result.
Thanks for visiting!

Carlene, I just love the level May have liked the dull, rusty shade better, but I love the transfer you used. It looks great. Love those two hooks too - good choice in design and finish.
