Summer Clearance Kids' Canvas Art Kits Repurposed As Fall Wall Signs
August 23, 2019
While searching the clearance bins at Joann Fabrics on a recent shopping trip, I purchased three "Little Makers Summer" Canvas Painting Kits at 75% off or about $2 each.
The little canvases are 8" x 8" with paint and a paint brush provided. I did not use the little paints on this project. (but I may use them on a later project)
(When you click on the bold Amazon, Old Sign Stencils or Dixie Belle Paint Company affiliate links you will be taken to the products I use for this project. If you order it does not change the price or service at all. As an Amazon Affiliate, Old Sign Stencils Affiliate or Dixie Belle Paint Affiliate, I earn from qualifying purchases.)
First, I brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in CAVIAR.
I also found two little fall 6" x 6" paper stencil packs at Joann's. They were $5.99 a piece, (but I used a coupon to get them at a lower price).
This is fall stencil pack two.
These are paper stencils, so handle with care.
I picked three of the six little stencils for my black canvases.
I taped them onto the canvases for stencil using blue painter's tape.
I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain for the lettering and Acrylic Craft Paint in Terracotta for the pumpkins.
I know some people use a liner brush to close the stencil bridges. I prefer to use small bits of blue painter's tape to close the opening for stenciling with a fine brush.
These cheaper stencils have too many annoying stencil bridges in too many places. (Just fill them in!)
Since I pounce on the stencils, I am able to pounce the bridge closed with this method.
I lightly distressed the stenciling and the canvases with 220 grit sandpaper.
I applied a light coat of Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear with an INTEX SUPPLY Fiber Rag.
Super corny saying, but cute!
My second canvas sign.
And the third canvas sign! (Being nice is important).
Here's all three of the canvas signs!
Thanks for visiting!
