I found this vintage child's school chair at a local antique/consignment shop last week for $5.
As you know, I love chairs. I thought I would give this little chair a makeover!

First I cleaned the little chair with Dawn Dish Soap hot water, along with KRUD KUTTER Tough Task Remover
for tougher grime.
Under the seat of the chair, I found a wad of petrified gum!

I think the chair was made by the Great Lakes Seating Company. It looks like a chair I could have sat in during elementary school back in the 1960's.
I mixed up a jar of Homestead House Milk Paint in Bayberry
. I think milk paint is a good choice for the rustic project that I have in mind.

The chair also had a repair to one of the legs here.
After brushing on a couple of coats of Bayberry milk paint, I sanded the chair using 100 grit sandpaper.
I pulled out one of my favorite stencils, Christmas Trees, from last Christmas by *Old Sign Stencils.
I know it's early to think about Christmas, but when I find something thrifting that will work for Christmas decor, I grab it. I can't wait until November to craft or upcycle my Christmas decor. Maybe you will want to be on the lookout for a Christmas chair.

I placed the four trees on the right of the stencil on the center front of my chair.
I folded the stencil and stuffed it through the back opening, so I could stencil the word Trees at the center back of the seat.
I lightly distressed the stenciling with 220 grit sandpaper.
The chair back was stenciled with Pine . Spruce . Fir.
I lightly waxed the chair with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear
. I applied it with an INTEX SUPPLY Fiber Rag
. I also wiped it down with a second fiber rag after the wax was dry.

The little chair is perfect with Christmas decor, but could also work as lake home or cabin decor.
