Vintage Child's Folding Chair Stenciled with an Argyle Pattern
August 14, 2019
I purchased this cute little vintage child's folding chair at a local antiques/consignment shop for $8.
The paint had some scratching and scrapes, but I didn't repaint it.

I decided to try the new *Argyle stencil from Old Sign Stencils on the chair.
Argyle is a two piece stencil that comes in two sizes.
The stencil is a little big for the chair seat, but I managed to tape it in the front and back to the seat front and back with blue painter's tape.
The right and left sides were not taped down, and I held the stencil down tight with my left hand's fingers to pounce the edges.
I alternated Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Hurricane Gray and Caviar diamond columns.
I used a smaller/narrower stencil brush to stencil in the close diamond points.

The arrows are pointing to the diamonds that I will line up with the second stencil's registration marks.
I stenciled the fine top lines using Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth. I very, very lightly distressed the stenciling with 220 grit sandpaper.
I stenciled three diamonds on the chair back,
I sprayed two coats of Krylon Gallery Series Artist and Clear Coatings Aerosol in Satin Finish on the chair to protect the stenciling.
Doesn't the little chair have a retro vibe?
Fun with argyle!

This red folding chair with the *Old Sign Stencils' buffalo check stencil is one of my all time favorites!
I have used it in my kitchen at Christmas,
AND, outside on my patio! It's as cute on the wall as folded down into a seat.
Thanks for visiting!

Love that argyle! The black and gray look so cute on that little chair. Looks like a cozy pair of socks! Just close your eyes and imagine.
ReplyDeleteI have got to get that argyle stencil. Love what you did with this folding chair, Carlene! I especially love it painted red, my favorite color. Such a lovely vignette you created around the chair too. Pinned
