Easy Stenciled Fall Decor With A Crate and Fence Board
September 13, 2019
I found this little wooden crate at a recent garage sale for $5.
Crates are really popular here, even without advertising, so I didn't think $5 was a bad price.

It was fairly dirty. I scrubbed it outdoors with a bucket of hot soapy Dawn dish soap water and a scrub brush. I also used some Krud Kutter Kitchen Degreaser Spray on some oily spots.
I let the crate air dry outdoors.

This 10 pack of 10" card stock stencils is available at Joann Fabric for $8.99. If you miss the sale, you can always use a coupon.
I used a few of these stencils on the crate and on a sign too.
I think the old truck with pumpkins in truck bed sold me on this package. I used it, and the "Farm Fresh" portion of another stencil on the crate.
These stencils are a couple use stencils. Be very careful with them so they don't rip or fold. If you want to try your hand at stenciling, these stencils are not a big investment.
Only the truck part fit on the crate front.
I pounced on the truck stencil using Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash and a brush from the Dreamweaver Brush Set.
I like to poly my old crates, especially indoor decor crates. Not just to protect the stencil, but to seal any remaining stains/germs/gunk in the old crates.
I used Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish in Matte on the crate. You can see above how the Polycrylic darkens the wood. Once dry, it will lighten some.
My little crate is perfect for pumpkins!
Both ends of the crate have the "Farm Fresh" stencil.
I had to find a way to use this stencil. I love the "Rae Dunn" looking font on the fall phrases at the right of the stencil.
I ended up using a 14 1/2" section of a dog eared cedar fence board from Menards. (I have these on hand.)
I brushed on a coat of Weathered Wood Accelerator.
So I used the fall phrases stencil and one of the oak leaves from another stencil on my board.
After the Weathered Wood Accelerator, I brushed on a watered down 1/2 paint (Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth) and 1/2 water coat on my board, omitting the edges of the board. See above.
I then went over the center of the board with more undiluted Drop Cloth. My board has an irregular two paint look border.
I used more Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash for the stenciling.

I sprayed the sign with Dixie Belle Easy Peasy Spray Wax.
Thanks for visiting! I hope you like my fall vignette project.

There both cute, and I love the little truck. I dont go to Joanns much because theres not one close to me. But I might have to go take a look at their stencils.
