DIY Fall Wall Decor With Old Sign Stencils
October 14, 2019
Thrift shops are full of old frames with faded art inside them.
I removed the faded print from the frame. (You can see around the edges the print's original coloring.)

A new pumpkin fall stencil from *Old Sign Stencils fit perfectly on the cardboard print.
I just love these shapely pumpkins!
I brushed two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Fluff onto the cardboard.
For the frame, I brushed on one coat of Rust-Oleum Painters Touch Latex in Flat Black, followed by two coats of Chalked Ultra Matte Paint in Chiffon Cream. I then wet distressed the frame, allowing the black base coat to show through in areas of the cream paint.

I then centered the pumpkin on the painted cardboard and taped it down with blue painter's tape.
I stenciled the pumpkin using DecoArt Chalky Finish Paint in Heritage (orange), Fusion Mineral Paint in Bayberry (green) and Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in Walnut Noyer (brown).
I added "Fall Market" to the bottom of my pumpkin stencil with another of the new fall stencils from *Old Sign Stencils.
The Fall Greetings Stencil is available in two sizes. I have the smaller size.

Here is my completed framed stencil!
I returned the glass to the frame, so the stenciling is protected.

Fall Market was pounced on with Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash.

Another fall stencil project involved the yellow furniture paint finish sample board, and a new wagon stencil from *Old Sign Stencils.
This is a super fun vintage wagon stencil graphic!
Before using the stencil, I based coated my yellow sample board with two coats of Dixie Belle Paint in Fluff.
I taped the wagon stencil onto my board. As you can see I also taped the wagon board directly above the wheels to allow easier stenciling of the wheels.
The wheel stencil is a three-parter. First, I stenciled the wheels, axles and handle with Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black.
Next, I stenciled the whitewalls with Dixie Belle Fluff, and then the wheel center in Coal Black.
An older fall graphics stencil from Old Sign Stencils, contained smaller pumpkins that just fit in the wagon.
I taped the red wagon top line across the pumpkin stencil.
I stenciled the small pumpkins with Decoart Heritage and Fusion Mineral Paint Bayberry.
A added a couple of leaves with Bayberry as well.
There was a stencil bleed on my red wagon so I repainted part of the wagon with Fluff, and then re-stenciled the wagon with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Barn Red. "Gather" was added from the Falls Greetings Stencil.
The last step was to stencil the wagon side boards with Fusion Mineral Paint in Algonquin.
I then sealed the sign with Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish in Matte.
The paint finish sample board already had holes drilled at the top. I used them to add a jute twine holder.
Wow, was that as confusing for you as it was for me? My first try at this stencil was a little chaotic. Believe me, my next project with the wagon will be much easier. Maybe should have done a practice wagon.
I haven't stenciled that many projects using so many different stencils before. Just remember, you can always sand and repaint if you screw up. (Like I did.)
I am very happy with both projects!
I hope you like the new fall stencils from Old Sign Stencils! Funky Junk Donna used the new stencils on fall pillows and placemats here. Be sure to check them out too!
*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.
Pin for later!

These turned out adorable, Carlene! I laughed through your commentary on the wagon... glad to have created a challenge for a seasoned pro like you! 😆
