I found this old drawer at a local consignment shop.
I think I paid $5 for it.
I repurposed the drawer front into this farmhouse style wall hook board. Details for that project can be found HERE.
Here's what I did with the rest of the drawer...

After I removed the wooden knobs and drawer front, I was left with this part of the drawer.
I brushed two coats of my favorite black paint, Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in CAVIAR. I used my Zibra 2" Stubby Handle Paint Brush. Zibra brushes eliminate problem brush strokes.
I added a Prima Marketing Inc Redesign Transfer - Always Fresh. All the details on the end of this project are HERE.
Although the shelf hung under my covered patio all summer long, I just wasn't happy with the imperfections with the ripped transfer. I decided to change it again.
Four candlesticks from a package of five unfinished wood candlesticks from Hobby Lobby were added to the bottom corners of the drawer.
The hollow part will be the bottom.
Screws went right through the drawer bottom and into the candlestick.
I used 60 grit sandpaper to sand off the cow image transfer. When most of the transfer was removed, I switched to a 220 grit.
I repainted the inside drawer bottom, and painted the candlestick legs with Caviar black.
I stenciled checks on three sides of the drawer using a stencil from the Artminds 26 paper pattern stencils found at a Michael's store, and Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Fluff.
The drawer end with the rope was stenciled with "Farm Fresh" from the fall paper stencils I purchased from Joann Fabrics. (2019 season)

I found a new wax at Dixie Belle Paint Company, and I just love it! It's called Big Mama's Butta. I used the unscented, but I have heard the Orange Grove scented wax is wonderful!
The wax contains all natural Hemp Seed Oil, Coconut Oil, Beeswax and Carnauba Wax.
I love the how the drawer/tray turned out. I only stenciled three rows of checks on the sides so I wouldn't have any partial checks.
I think I purchased these Darice flat wood, unfinished ornaments at Joann Fabrics. Hobby Lobby may have them as well.
I painted the front and back of the ornaments with Dixie Belle Paint in Caviar.
Above is a Maker's Holiday Craft 4" x 4" paper stencil set of 12 designs available last season Joann Fabrics stores.
I stenciled the truck onto each wooden ornament using white craft paint. I then lightly distressed the ornament edges, and waxed them with Big Mama's Butta.
I used some red and white checked ribbon, that I had on hand, to string a hanger through the hole.
I'm not tired of old trucks with trees in back yet!
I love the black, white and red Christmas container vignette in my drawer.

Love your repurposed drawer, and the ornaments with trucks on them. The whole vignette is so cute. You're delightful, Carlene. I bet your home is just so cozy and you're surrounded by happy people and "feel good" objects!
ReplyDeleteThanks Barb! My home is full of my personality! Not just strictly a style.
