A friend of mine gave me two serving trays that she no longer used.
This square wood and tile tray is one of them.

I have never up-cycled a tray with ceramic tiles before. Being concerned that the paint may not stick or may come off of the tiles too easily, I chose to try a product from Dixie Belle Paint Company called Slick Stick. I picked it up on one of my last shopping trips to Bemidji, Minnesota.
I followed the instructions for Slick Stick on the Dixie Belle website. Apply two coats and let dry overnight.

The next morning, I brushed on two coats of my favorite black, Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Caviar.
As luck would have it, these little paper 4" stencils from Joann Fabrics Christmas 2018, fit the tiles perfectly.
I pounced on the stencils using Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Fluff.
I distressed the edges with 220 grit sandpaper, and waxed the tray with Big Mama's Butta.
I am loving my black and white Christmas decor this season!
I will probably use the tray to display other Christmas decor, and NOT for beverages. It's actually somewhat heavy.
