This little wooden crate was one of my November finds. I found it at one of the Goodwill shops in the Twin Cities.
Time to give it a new look!

My Goodwill crate upcycle was inspired by a stenciled Ikea crate kit shared by Funky Junk Donna from Old Sign Stencils! Her informational video is HERE.
At first, I used Varathane Weathered Wood Accelerator to turn the wood to a weathered gray.
Some wood varieties take the stain differently, and I wasn't really happy with it. I considered doing a two tone look, part paint and part stain. But, I thought it seemed too busy since I was also adding stencils.
I ended up painting the whole crate with two coats of Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain.
The flower and herb stencils, that Donna used on her crates, were too big for my tiny crate. I pulled out the *Old Sign Stencils's Shipping Crate Stamps Stencil.
All prices on the Old Sign Stencils's website are listed in Canadian currency. A handy currency conversion link is provided for your convenience.
*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.
The shaded stencils were added to the front, back, and ends of my little crate using Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash.
I did not wax or seal the Fusion Mineral Paint.
Four Shepherd Hardware 1-1/4-Inch Plastic Swivel Casters were added to the crate bottom.

The little casters, along with the stencils, added so much interest to my plain little crate.
The crate is adorable with a faux or real plant inside.
The shipping crate stamp stenciled crate is fun paired with this old postage scale.
Pin for later!
Thanks for visiting! I had a wonderful Christmas holiday. I hope you all did too!

Adorable little crate! Not plain anymore. Love the stenciling and that you added casters.
ReplyDeleteYou are so creative! I love your projects! I am very curious as to what your hometown is. I am originally from Argyle, and I know you are not too far from there. Keep up the great ideas!
