When I was in the Twin Cities over the Thanksgiving holiday, I was able to score the Trifecta! The Trifecta is a trip to Joann Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, and Michael's on Black Friday.
I purchased this Handmade Holiday Craft Christmas Tree Chalkboard at Joann Fabrics. It was regularly priced at $9.99, but I got it for 60% off.
I purchased this Christmas paper stencil package at Joann's as well. It was priced at $6.99, but I know it was at least 50% off.
This stencil package is only available at stores (not online).
The package contained six paper stencils in two sizes. They were mostly punched out on the perfections but a few stubborn pieces of paper stayed in the stencil. I had to be very careful not to tear the stencil. This set is pretty fragile, and may only last a project or two.
For the chalkboard tree, I chose the "Sleigh Rides" (third from left above) and a "Snowflake" (fifth from left above).
I then taped the Sleigh Rides stencil in the center of the chalkboard tree with blue painter's tape.
I added three "Snowflakes" in the corners of the tree. I cut the snowflake stencil apart from the stencil so it would be easier to center.
I then pulled a Scrabble game rack out of my crafting stash. About 2" were cut off one side with a chop saw.
I painted it with Fusion Mineral Paint in Upper Canada Green (a discontinued color).
I hot glued the rack onto the chalkboard tree, and then waxed the project with Dixie Belle Big Mama's Butta.
I added a faux cedar sprig from the Target Dollar Spot $1 packages, to the top of the chalkboard. The sprig is attached to the chalkboard with a 1" x 1/8" mini clothespin. A snowflake button was hot glued to the clothespin.
Of course I will never write on the chalkboard since it's been stenciled, but I think the Scrabble tile rack and real chalk makes it look like the real deal.
Have you made any semi-homemade Christmas ornaments or decor this year?
Pin for later!
Thanks for visiting!

So cute and unique, Carlene. Did you know what you were going to do with the chalkboard tree when you bought it?
