This vintage wastebasket with decal was a recent find. I shared it along with other November finds HERE.
I'm sure it was homemade. Made from plywood and laced up on the sides with leather laces. The laces were disintegrating.

I cut the laces and pulled out the small nails holding the bottom to the sides.
I gave it a good cleaning with Dawn Dish Soap water and some Krud Kutter as well.
I painted the top and bottom of each board with two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in CAVIAR.
Since I will be keeping this piece for my Christmas decor, I pulled out my favorite, the medium *Old Sign Stencils Buffalo Check Stencil.
The Buffalo Check Stencil is available in two sizes, medium and large. The large is perfect for furniture pieces and the medium for decor pieces.
I placed the stencil on the side panels, on the diagonal, and stenciled each one using Fusion Mineral Paint in Fort York Red.
I then picked the new in 2019 *Old Sign Stencils Reindeer Feed stencil to add to the front panel.
All prices on the Old Sign Stencils's website are listed in Canadian currency. A handy currency conversion link is provided for your convenience.
*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.
I pounced on the stencil with Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain.
I waxed all the pieces with Dixie Belle Best Dang Furniture Wax in clear.
After re-nailing the bottom square to the side panels, I laced up the sides with Realeather Suede Lace in Toast.
I was able to find this suede lacing at our local craft shop and purchased it by the yard.

Buffalo check AND suede laces! What's not to love?
I added thin birch logs to my wastebasket.
I can use the piece inside or on my covered patio too.
Pin for later!
Thanks for visiting!
