Free Tray Makeover in Blue
January 15, 2020
My friend Diane kindly gave me this tray to makeover. She no longer used it.
I have a makeover idea!

I added four 1 1/2" round wooden knobs to the bottom of the tray for feet. The knobs have 3/16" holes.
I am not sure of the exact size of the screws used. (Mixed screws in our bin) They were added from the top, and went in almost flush.
The tray will be used, less for serving, and more as a decor piece.
I painted the tray with two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Bunker Hill Blue.
I used a sponge brush.

As you probably guessed, I will be stenciling the tray, this time with a paper stencil from this Artminds's package from Michael's.
This is the pattern I selected.
I cut the stencil down to fit in the tray, and taped it in place with blue painter's tape.
I cut the other two sides of the stencil as well, and moved it both right and left to add a couple more rows of stencils to the sides. The pattern was swirled on with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth.
I chose NOT to distress the tray. I waxed it using Dixie Belle Big Mama's Butta.

I found these two brass items at the thrift shop.
I wanted the brass to be antique looking but not quite as tarnished so I slathered on some ketchup. I have a cheaper bottle in the fridge just for this purpose.
Keep applying, wiping and rinsing off the ketchup until you get the look you want. You can also let the ketchup sit for a while on the brass to loosen up some tarnish.
Here is the finished tray.
My tray with little feet is perfect on a coffee table or even in the center of a dining table to anchor a vignette.
Classic Blue is the Pantone color of the year.
I think it's gorgeous!
Thanks Diane for the tray, and thanks everyone for visiting!
