This little green vintage metal toolbox was one of my November Thrifted Finds HERE.
I wiped the toolbox down with hot, soapy, Dawn Dish Soap water and a rag, and brushed on a coat of Polycrylic Protective Finish in Matte. The poly will seal any rust spots before the makeover.
Here is the toolbox after two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth. Next, I gave the toolbox a light sanding with 220 grit sandpaper, applying the most pressure on the edges.
I then pulled out my Prima Marketing Redesign Transfer - Everyday Farmhouse, recently used on a Wooden Level Wall Hooks Project HERE.
I used the script on the lower right hand side of the sheet above,
AND the "67" from this sheet.
I cut the transfers apart into individual words.
I laid the transfers out on my toolbox top with the paper backing still intact. When I was happy with the placement, I removed the paper backing and rubbed the transfers down with the stick included in the package.
Since the toolbox was missing it's handle I put a piece of packing tape on the ends of jute twine and poked it through the holes. I used a needlenose pliers to pull the taped ends through the holes. Knots were tied in each end of the jute.
I waxed the toolbox with Dixie Belle Big Mama's Butta.
Big Mama's Butta can be applied with a rag or a wax brush and is very easy to apply. Just wipe off excess wax after a few hours or overnight. (Most of it will have soaked in).
The little farmhouse style toolbox fits perfectly on my vintage slaw cutter shelf project.
I love old slaw cutters. I use this one with magnets to display old family photos.
The little wreath is actually a Peppergrass Candle Ring. This versatile little wreath can hang on wall hooks as well. Here it is hanging with a magnetic clip.
Easy farmhouse style with vintage kitchen items, and upcycled thrift shop finds.
I still love stencils and stenciling but transfers are pretty versatile and very decorative too.
Thanks for visiting!

Love the box, Carlene! You do such a good job repurposing and up-scaling projects. Love the rope handle, too.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute toolbox. If I may suggest, trying a drawer pull for a handle?
