Upcycled Goodwill Sled As Winter Decor
January 17, 2020
I found this unfinished wooden sled at a Goodwill in the Twin Cities over Christmas. It was priced at $5.99.
I was going to save it until next Christmas but instead, I gave it a a "Winter" makeover.

I wiped it down with a damp rag, and then brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in CAVIAR.
I then pulled out my well used FolkArt Holiday Value Stencil Pack.
The Folkart Holiday Stencil Pack has twenty-six 12" x 12" card stock stencils. For this project, I picked the snowflake stencil. A few of the stencils are too corny, but I found quite a few to use for my holiday projects. The down side is the stencils must be pressed/punched out and rip very easily. If you are careful, you can use them a few times.
I laid the stencil almost on a diagonal, taped it to the sled, and swirled on two of the snowflake designs with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth.

After distressing the edges with 100 grit sandpaper, I applied Dixie Belle Big Mama's Butta with a INTEX SUPPLY White Fiber Rag.
The wax is easy to apply with a wax brush or rag. No streaking, and the colors take on a very rich hue.

I used a better type of jute for the cord.
The sled is perfect on a coffee table or dining table anchoring a winter vignette.
Caviar is such a great black paint color.
AND, of course the sled can stand or hang vertically on the wall too.
One of my blogging friends, Sarah from Sadie Seasongoods, painted and stenciled this little sled last January HERE.
